„Sportmanagement cannot be learnt and used successful by trying to get an exam with minimum effort and passion –you need to want this job” (Preuß, 2023).

"Sportmanagement cannot be learned and used successfully by trying to get an exam with minimum effort and passion -you need to want this job" (Preuß, 2023). With these words, our induction event of the new Master students in International Sport Management started on Monday, April 17. Starting at 3:00 p.m., Professor Holger Preuß and his team invited the new students to one of the VIP boxes at the MEWA Arena Mainz.

The event began with a warm welcome to the new students by Professor Preuß, before various organizational and content-related topics of the master’s program in International Sports Management were addressed. Getting to know each other as well as the team around Prof. Preuß, which was represented that afternoon by Katrin Utzinger, Lina-Doreen Rose, Antonia Hannawacker, Andreas Runkel, Kim Schu and Yannick Rinker, was not neglected during the event.

The visit to the MEWA Arena was rounded off by two guest lectures by our two alums Sascha Kraft (Manager CRM & Digital Communication at 1. FSV Mainz 05) and Stephan Bandholz (Arenamanager MEWA-Arena & Director Arena Management and Sustainability at 1. FSV Mainz 05). In their presentations, the two provided highly interesting insights into topics such as fan relationship management, sustainability management in the stadium, but also their personal career with a master's degree in international sports management as a milestone. Afterwards, the students had the opportunity to ask Sascha and Stephan questions and to discuss together with them before the first part of the introductory event ended around 6:30 pm.

The event continued with a joint dinner at the Mexican-Californian restaurant El Burro. There, the students and employees were able to end the day together and get to know each other even better in a relaxed atmosphere.

A great first event for everyone involved, which will hopefully set the course for highly interesting studies here in Mainz. Professor Preuß and his team would like to thank Stephan and Sascha for their commitment and wish the new Master students a lot of fun and success in their Master studies with us at the Institute of Sports Science! We look forward to spending time with you!
