Holger Preuß ist Professor für Sportökonomie und Sportsoziologie an der Johannes Gutenberg-Universität in Mainz, Deutschland. Er ist außerdem Adjunct Professor an der University of Ottawa, Kanada, und international scholar an der State University of New York (Cortland).

Er war Herausgeber der Zeitschrift "European Sport Management Quarterly" (2012-2014), eine der weltweit führenden Zeitschriften im Sportmanagement. Außerdem ist er Associate Editor des "Journal of Sport & Tourism". Er hat 15 Bücher und mehr als 155 Artikel in internationalen Fachzeitschriften und Büchern veröffentlicht. In den letzten zehn Jahren wurde er eingeladen, mehr als 145 Präsentationen auf der ganzen Welt zu halten.

Sein Forschungsgebiet ist auf ökonomische und sozio-ökonomische Aspekte des Sports ausgerichtet. Insbesondere beschäftigt er sich mit der sozio-ökonomischen Wirkungsanalyse von Mega-Sportevents wie den Olympischen Spielen (seit 1972) und der FIFA Fußball-Weltmeisterschaft (seit 2006). Holger hat gerade seine Forschung zum Thema "Strategisches Management in Olympischen Sportorganisationen" abgeschlossen und entwickelt ständig die Rahmenbedingungen und die Messung der Legacy von Mega-Events weiter, u.a. gerade für die Olympischen Spiele Paris 2024, wo er Präsident des Beratungskomitees für die wirtschaftlichen und sozialen Auswirkungen der Spiele ist.

Früher arbeitete er zusammen mit dem Bundesinnenministerium an der Entwicklung einer nationalen Strategie für Mega-Sportveranstaltungen (bis 2020) sowie auch mit der Regierung an der Reform des Hochleistungssports (2017).

Holger Preuss ist Mitglied der IOC-Kommission "Legacy and Sustainability", Mitglied der UIPM (Weltverband Moderner Fünfkampf) "Innovation Commission", Mitglied der WFDF (World Flying Disc Federation) "Ethics Commission" und Vorsitzender der „Ethics Commission“ der IFI (International Federation Icestocksport).

Holger Preuß is Professor of Sports Economics and Sociology at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz, Germany. He is also an adjunct professor at the University of Ottawa, Canada, and an international scholar at the State University of New York (Cortland).

He was editor of the journal "European Sport Management Quarterly" (2012-2014), one of the world's leading journals in sport management. He is also an associate editor of the "Journal of Sport & Tourism." He has published 15 books and more than 155 articles in international journals and books. In the last ten years, he has been invited to give more than 145 presentations around the world.

His research area is focused on economic and socio-economic aspects of sports. In particular, he focuses on the socio-economic impact analysis of mega sporting events such as the Olympic Games (since 1972) and the FIFA World Cup (since 2006). Holger has just completed his research on "Strategic Management in Olympic Sports Organizations" and is constantly developing the framework and measuring the legacy of mega-events, including just for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, where he is President of the supervising committee of the evaluation of the Games.

Earlier, he worked with the Federal Ministry of the Interior to develop a national strategy for mega sporting events (until 2020) and also with the government on the reform of high performance sport (2017).

Holger Preuss is a member of the IOC "Legacy and Sustainability" Commission, a member of the UIPM (World Modern Pentathlon Union) "Innovation Commission", a member of the WFDF (World Flying Disc Federation) "Ethics Commission" and Chairman of the IFI (International Federation Icestocksport) "Ethics Commission".
