Am 18.08.2026 trafen sich erneut aktuelle Studierende, Alumni und Lehrende des Masterstudiengangs „Internationales Sportmanagement“ zum jährlichen Alumni Beachen auf den Beachvolleyball-Plätzen neben der Tennisanlage des Instituts für Sportwissenschaft.
Nachdem der ursprünglich für Mai geplante Termin aufgrund des Wetters abgesagt werden musste, fand das Alumni Beachen in diesem Jahr im Rahmen des Blockseminars M7 des M.Sc. „Internationales Sportmanagement“ statt. Insgesamt sechs Teams gingen im 4:4-Modus an den Start, darunter auch ein Team des HiPer-Studiengangs, dessen Studierende derzeit ihre Summer School in Mainz absolvieren. Spannende Spiele und eine tolle Atmosphäre waren damit garantiert.
Nach zahlreichen umkämpften Partien kam es im Finale zum Duell zwischen dem Team Abteilung und dem Team Jahrgang 9. Vor allem zu Beginn hatte Jahrgang 9 die Nase vorn. Doch mit druckvollen Aufschlägen und starker Abwehr fand die Abteilung zunehmend besser ins Spiel und setzte sich schließlich deutlich mit 21:15 durch.
Damit gelang der Abteilung ein besonderer Erfolg: Nach 18 Jahren konnte sie das Alumni Beachen wieder einmal gewinnen. Für das erfolgreiche Team Abteilung spielten Prof. Dr. Holger Preuß, Dr. Kim Schu, Yannick Rinker, Antonia Hannawacker, Mohammad Alkayal und Rolf Hufft unter der lauten Unterstützung des übrigen anwesenden Abteilungsteams.
Neben den spannenden Spielen stand auch in diesem Jahr das gemeinsame Beisammensein im Mittelpunkt Beim gemeinsamen Grillen und in entspannter Atmosphäre blieb viel Zeit für Gespräche zwischen aktuellen Studierenden, Alumni und Lehrenden. So bot das Alumni Beachen auch in diesem Jahr wieder eine schöne Gelegenheit, Kontakte über verschiedene Jahrgänge hinweg zu pflegen und gemeinsam einen sportlichen Abend zu verbringen.
Ein großer Dank geht an den Allgemeinen Hochschulsport (AHS) für die Bereitstellung der Plätze, an Prof. Dr. Holger Preuß, Dr. Kim Schu und Yannick Rinker für die Organisation sowie an alle Beteiligten für die spannenden Spiele und die tolle Atmosphäre.
Somit heißt es im nächsten Jahr: Mission Titelverteidigung – wir freuen uns!

After 18 Years: Department Team Wins Alumni Beach Tournament
On August 18, 2026, current students, alumni, and faculty members of the Master’s program “International Sport Management” once again came together for the annual Alumni Beach Volleyball Tournament at the beach volleyball courts next to the tennis facility of the Institute of Sports Science.
After the originally scheduled date in May had to be cancelled due to the weather, this year’s Alumni Beach Tournament took place as part of the M7 block seminar of the M.Sc. “International Sport Management.” A total of six teams competed in the 4-on-4 format, including a team from the HiPer program, whose students are currently attending their Summer School in Mainz. Exciting matches and a great atmosphere were guaranteed.
After numerous closely contested matches, the final saw Team Department face Team Year 9. Year 9 had the upper hand, especially at the beginning of the match. However, with powerful serves and strong defensive play, the Department team gradually found its rhythm and ultimately secured a clear 21–15 victory.
This marked a special achievement for the Department: after 18 years, the Department team won the Alumni Beach Tournament once again. The victorious Team Department consisted of Prof. Dr. Holger Preuss, Dr. Kim Schu, Yannick Rinker, Antonia Hannawacker, Mohammad Alkayal, and Rolf Hufft, backed by the enthusiastic support of the other members of the Department team in attendance.
As always, the tournament was about more than just the exciting matches. During the barbecue and in a relaxed atmosphere, there was plenty of time for conversations between current students, alumni, and faculty members. Once again, the Alumni Beach Tournament provided a great opportunity to stay connected across different cohorts and enjoy a fun evening together.
A big thank you goes to the Allgemeiner Hochschulsport (AHS) for providing the courts, to Prof. Dr. Holger Preuß, Dr. Kim Schu, and Yannick Rinker for organizing the event, and to everyone involved for the exciting matches and the fantastic atmosphere.
