Am vergangenen Wochenende nahm eine Delegation des Instituts für Sportwissenschaft Mainz beim Sports, Medicine & Health Summit in Hamburg teil. Der SMHS ist ein interdisziplinäres Fortbildungsforum für Mediziner*innen, Wissenschaftler*innen und Praktiker*innen aus Sport, Bewegung und Gesundheit. Neu ist die einzigartige Verbindung aus Theorie und Praxis zum fächerübergreifenden Netzwerken, um die Menschen für mehr Bewegung und einen aktiveren Lebensstil zu begeistern. Aus der Abteilung Sportökonomie, -soziologie und -geschichte war Prof. Dr. Holger Preuß nach Hamburg gereist.
Bereits am Donnerstag hielt Prof. Dr. Holger Preuß einen spannenden Impulsvortrag zum Thema "Olympische Spiele in Deutschland und deren Herausforderungen", bevor er zusammen mit Prof. Dr. Bernd Wolfarth, Präsident der deutschen Sportärztevereinigung und ärztlicher Leiter der Abteilung Sportmedizin an der Charité Berlin im Rahmen einer Podiumsdiskussion zum Thema "Olympische Spiele in Deutschland: Wie gelingt das nachhaltig erfolgreich?" debattierte. Die Diskussion lieferte einen spannenden Einblick in die Thematik und schürte Vorfreude auf eine potentielle Olympiabewerbung von Deutschland.
Das Institut für Sportwissenschaft Mainz war mit Vertreter*innen aus insgesamt vier Abteilungen vertreten und konnte sich so abteilungsübergreifend stark präsentieren. Neben der Abteilung Sportökonomie, -soziologie und -geschichte nahmen auch die Abteilung Sportpsychologie um Prof. Dr. Michael Doppelmayr, die Abteilung Sportmedizin, Prävention und Rehabilitation um Prof. Dr. Perikles Simon, und die Abteilung Sport & Ernährung um Jun.-Prof. Juliane Heydenreich aktiv am Summit teil. Die beinhaltete das Präsentieren der eigenen Forschung in Form von Vorträgen und Postern, sowie die Teilnahme an den verschiedenen Programmpunkten des SMHS.
Der Besuch des Sports, Medicine & Health Summit bot der Delegation des Instituts für Sportwissenschaft Mainz die Möglichkeit, viele Kontakte zu festigen und neue Kontakte zu knüpfen. Besonders erfreulich waren dabei für Herrn Prof. Dr. Preuß die Verbindungen, die mit der Weltgesundheitsorganisation (WHO) geknüpft werden konnten. Diese Kontakte sind unter anderem auch von großer Bedeutung für die zukünftige Gestaltung von Studium und Lehre an der JGU Mainz. Darüber hinaus konnte sich auch über den nationalen Sport hinaus mit Vertreter*innen aus Japan, Spanien und den USA ausgetauscht werden.
Die Delegation aus Mainz bedankt sich bei den Veranstaltern des Sports, Medicine & Health Summit in Hamburg für die hervorragende Organisation und das breite Spektrum an Themen, die behandelt wurden. Der Summit bot eine umfassende Plattform für den Austausch von Wissen und Erfahrungen und ermöglichte wertvolle Einblicke in die aktuellen Entwicklungen im Sportbereich.

Last weekend, a delegation of the Institute of Sport Science Mainz participated in the Sports, Medicine & Health Summit in Hamburg. The SMHS is an interdisciplinary training forum for physicians, scientists and practitioners from the fields of sports, exercise and health. What is new is the unique combination of theory and practice for interdisciplinary networking to inspire people to exercise more and lead a more active lifestyle. Prof. Dr. Holger Preuß from the Department of Sports Economics, Sociology and History traveled to Hamburg.
Already on Thursday, Prof. Dr. Holger Preuß gave an exciting keynote speech on the topic of "Olympic Games in Germany and their challenges" before debating together with Prof. Dr. Bernd Wolfarth, President of the German Association of Sports Physicians and Medical Director of the Department of Sports Medicine at Charité Berlin, during a panel discussion on the topic of "Olympic Games in Germany: How to succeed in the long term?". The discussion provided an exciting insight into the topic and stoked anticipation for a potential Olympic bid by Germany.
The Institute of Sports Science Mainz was represented by representatives from a total of four departments and was therefore able to present itself strongly across departments. In addition to the Department of Sports Economics, Sociology and History, the Department of Sports Psychology around Prof. Dr. Michael Doppelmayr, the Department of Sports Medicine, Prevention and Rehabilitation around Prof. Dr. Perikles Simon, and the Department of Sports & Nutrition around Jun.-Prof. Juliane Heydenreich actively participated in the Summit. The included presenting their own research in the form of presentations and posters, as well as participating in the various program items of the SMHS.
The visit of the Sports, Medicine & Health Summit offered the delegation of the Institute of Sports Science Mainz the opportunity to strengthen many contacts and to establish new ones. Prof. Dr. Preuß was particularly pleased with the connections that were made with the World Health Organization (WHO). Among other things, these contacts are also of great importance for the future design of studies and teaching at JGU Mainz. Furthermore, it was possible to exchange ideas with representatives from Japan, Spain and the USA beyond national sports.
The delegation from Mainz would like to thank the organizers of the Sports, Medicine & Health Summit in Hamburg for the excellent organization and the broad spectrum of topics covered. The Summit offered a comprehensive platform for the exchange of knowledge and experience and provided valuable insights into current developments in the sports sector.
