Olympiaseminar der DOA in Olympia

Vom 19.

From September 19 to 25, a group of master's students from Mainz traveled to Greece as part of the German Olympic Academy's Olympic Seminar. In a critical discourse with universities from all over Germany, current Olympic topics and challenges were examined.

After meeting at the Panathenaean Stadium in Athens on the first morning, the trip continued by coach via Corinth and Epidauros to the International Olympic Academy in Olympia. A first day, which was thus already richly equipped, with insights into the Greek culture. During the week, various thematic formats were then on the agenda on site. Explainer videos and short lectures encouraged participants to discuss a wide range of current topics relating to the Olympic movement, supplemented by expert presentations and pro/con debates, and framed by social media challenges, everything to do with the Olympics could be examined over the course of the week. This and the evening leisure activities offered the opportunity to exchange ideas and do sports with the participants from the other universities. Of course, a visit to the nearby excavation site of ancient Olympia was not to be missed during this week. The week came to a worthy end with a social evening organized by the students on the last evening in Olympia and the trip to Delphi on the following day. Here, as during the whole week, the ancient sites and the unique nature of Greece could be marveled at in the best weather, before the week came to an end with a cozy dinner in a typical Greek taverna.

A unique experience as we students found, since the framework on site and the focus on Olympic topics threw an exclusive character on this seminar and benefited the intensive exchange.
